Edwin Schlossberg
Description
Composing a poem often excludes the reader and proposes an observation made only through the wishes of the poet. The poems in this exhibition include the reader by responding to his/her presence both as a heat source and as the opaque being before light flashes. By making the materials of the poem responsive to heat patterns and light flashes, the presence of the reader becomes integral to the nature of the work and creates the climate and weather in the gallery.
Using liquid crystals and photo-phosphorescent paint, the poems literally and figuratively respond to the presence of the reader, the visitor. The poems are in three groups; WARM MEMORIES, which are a series of four lithographs made at Universal Limited Art Editions; TOUCHING CHANGES, a series of twelve drawings; and FLASH INSIGHT, a series of four pieces silkscreened on photo-phosphorescent vinyl and plexi-glass.
Also included in the exhibition are a selection of the artist's books including, Einstein and Beckett, The Philosopher's Game, and The Pocket Calculator Game Book and original proposals and blue prints for the Brooklyn Children's Museum and the recently completed Macomber Farm in Framingham, Massachusetts.
